Environmental Project In Tochigi Prefecture

Project Summary

A host is a non-profit organization, which aim to develop leadership skills in young people through environmental protection activities. Their main activities are making the better condition in forests in Tochigi prefecture with local people and other non-profit organizations. Throughout this project, you are going to look and learn the environmental problems, Tochigi prefecture has been facing and help them to solve it. In addition, during this project, you are going to join their study programs, which you are going to learn how to lead groups of people as well as share your opinions and ideas about environmental problems with locals.

Role of the Volunteer:
1. Prepare a good condition in a forest where children can play
2. Improve a condition of bamboo forest
3. Attend meetings with local people
4. Help to organize the family camp
5. Engage in the training and study activities

Requirement:
Specific background is not needed. But you must have an interest in environmental activities as well as enjoy physical work and like to work with others. Basic knowledge of Japanese Language is required.

Language Opportunity:
You will work with locals. A lot of chances to use Japanese every day.

Period:
Between May 10 and July 16 / August 29 and November

Duration:
One month to a whole project period

Working Hours:
7 hours per day and 1-2 days off *3-4 days per week for environmental protection activities and 1 day per week for study session and organizing the event.

Farming Project in Nagano Prefecture

Project Summary

A host runs an organic farm, which produces a wide range of vegetables. The reason why they do the organic farming is that vegetables they grow without pesticides and chemical fertilizers are delicious and healthy, they want to offer those vegetables to customers in order to help them to live a healthier happy life as well as they like to work with the feeling of every life on earth and seasons. They also host trainees who study agriculture in universities. You will have a lot of chances to learn about organic farming with them and enjoy nature in Nagano prefecture.

 

Role of the Volunteer:
1. Harvesting
2. Packing
3. Weeding
4. Seeding
5. Planting
6. Composting

Requirement:
You should be between 18 and 40 years old. The host accepts only one person at one time. Specific background is not required but you must have an interest in environmental /agricultural issues and organic farming, as well as enjoy physical outdoor work and a life in country. Basic Knowledge of Japanese language is preferred.

Language Opportunity:
You will work with Japanese staffs and trainees; You have a plenty of opportunities to practice Japanese during your stay.

Period:
Between April and October

Duration:
One month

Working Hours:
8 hours per day and 1 day off

Animal Care Project In Tokushima Prefecture

Project Summary

A host is a non-profit organization, which founded in 2006 with the long-term goal of developing an animal rescue canter and decreasing the stray dog and cat population through spay. They aim to build a community in which companion animals can live free from suffering or cruelty. Their activities include rescue, care and re-homing of stray, abandoned, abused and neglected animals. They currently house and care approximately 300 cats and dogs which rescued from not only in Tokushima where their shelter is located but also other parts of Japan. So people who can help with dog walking and socializing with animals at their shelter are really needed. 

 

 

Role of the Volunteer:
Mainly taking care of dogs and cats which are rescued and live in their shelter
1. Going for a walk with dogs
2. Cleaning dog and cat homes
3. Building and general maintenance in and around the shelter if you have carpentry skills
5. Engage in activities

Requirement:
You must love dogs and cats and want to help them to live freely and happily.

Language Opportunity:
The founder, Susan and some volunteers speak English. So English would be good enough to communicate during your stay. But most of the local volunteers and regular staff members are Japanese speakers which let you have chances to speak Japanese as well.

Working Hours:
Around 7-8 hours per day

Early Childhood Education Project In Tochigi Prefecture

Project Summary

A host runs an international school, which offers preschool, kindergarten programs and after school programs for elementary school students where children learn English throughout a wide range of activities. The art, science & math, literacy and music are in their curriculum, which helps children to develop social skills, creativity, curiosity and confidence. Their goal is to help children become enthusiastic learners. Besides those programs, they organize events, which allows children to get in touch with different cultures. You will have opportunities to interact with kids, share about your culture and learn about early childhood education.

 

Role of the Volunteer:
1. Assist lessons
2. Help organizing events
3. Communicate with children in English

Requirement:
You must like to work with children and be willing to learn about early childhood education

Language Opportunity:
You will mostly use English at the school. But you will stay with a host family which allows you to practice Japanese everyday.

Period:
All year around

Duration:
1-3 months

Working Hours:
Depending on the lesson schedule; The school is open from 10:00 to 19:00

Accommodation (Homestay), meals (breakfast and dinner), and necessary work-related transportation
